"Lonesome Road" is a 1927 song with Music by Nathaniel Shilkret and Lyrics by Gene Austin ... I've heard many versions of this tune over time, and always assumed it was traditional or of New Orleans origin, it was infact by all accounts, written in the style of an african american folk song and since has featured in many musicals since. Madeleine Peyroux did a lovely version more recently which i particularily liked, and have sung it since hearing her version.

This version is inspired by my tinkerings with New Orleans jazz on the guitar and walking ragtime styles, and i associate it in my listening as a jazz standard though it has popular song roots too. I play it in Open D.

When it came to this first impromptu session with Ted, i felt it was a strong enough tune to acknowledge the path i had come along, as much as looking forward to better times. It has a 'spiritual' or perhaps universal application which i particularily like, that is like a stop point in time to gather / collect feelings before moving forth.
