a spiritual originally by North Carolina street musician Blind Rev. Gary Davis ... ( i think!!), i heard it on his Pure Religion and Bad Company L.P which was from 1958, tho it may have roots in his repertoire from the 20's/30's

... props should go my friend Mick Como, a great fingerstyle guitar player from Liverpool, who really got us onto the amazing music of Gary Davis. Davis himself was responsible for influencing greats such as Blind boy Fuller in the 30's and going on to teach alot of great white players like Ry Cooder and so on, in the 60's, who used to go round his house and give him a buck for some new tricks.

This song i love for as much as i find it uplifting, religious or not and the funky guitar lines which are thrown up and down simultaneously. This is kind of my take on this approach as i've realised since, his original is played nothing like this, yet i think this is kind of the joy of interpretation by ear, bit like chinese whispers, tho the integrity is in the essence i feel and intention, not necessarily the detail to exactitude.
